Updates, data & troubleshooting
How updates arrive, where Fabrication keeps its data and logs, and what to do when something goes wrong.
Updates
Fabrication checks for a new version a little after it opens, and every few hours. A new version downloads in the background; when it's ready you're asked whether to restart now — your work is saved as you go — or it's installed the next time you quit. To check yourself, choose Fabrication › Check for Updates….
Where things are
| Your projects | Wherever you chose — Documents › Fabrication to start. See Projects, files & revisions. |
| Fabrication's working copy | ~/Library/Application Support/Fabrication |
| Its logs | ~/Library/Logs/Fabrication — Help › Show Fabrication's Log opens it |
When something goes wrong
- “Fabrication's server stopped unexpectedly.” Choose Restart. Everything saved before it stopped is safe. If it keeps happening, send feedback and attach what's in the log.
- Something looks stuck. View › Reload redraws the window without losing anything.
- Fabrication can't save to your project's folder. Check the folder still exists — on a drive that's connected — and that your Mac lets Fabrication use it: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
- The app won't open after downloading. Make sure you dragged it into Applications, then open it from there.
Reporting a bug
The more we know, the faster we can fix it. On the feedback page, say what you did, what happened, and what you expected. Your version is in Fabrication › About Fabrication. If you're comfortable with it, View › Toggle Developer Tools shows the app's console — a screenshot of any red messages there helps a lot.
